Cy-Hope needs $60,000 to replace a box truck stolen from its Hope Chest Resale Market on Stockdick School Road in Katy.

Thieves took the vehicle from the store's locked parking lot on Oct. 13, according to My Neighborhood News. Surveillance video captured two people breaking through a gate early that morning. The thieves then spent about 30 minutes out of camera view rummaging through scrap materials before driving off, Jennifer Donovan, director of Hope Chest Resale, told KHOU.

The truck is wrapped with the Hope Chest name and logo and carries Texas license plate TJJ5988. Cy-Hope has asked anyone who spots it to call 713-466-4673 but not approach the vehicle.

The vehicle hauled donated furniture and large items to the Katy resale shop for sale, with proceeds funding Cy-Hope's programs for children and families. It also transported food for the nonprofit's feeding program.

In 2026, the truck helped deliver more than 23,000 pounds of food through monthly drives, KHOU reported.

"The fact that somebody would take advantage of a nonprofit that's trying to do good and help people is very disappointing," Donovan told KHOU.

Cy-Hope has launched a Box Truck Fund with a $60,000 goal to buy a replacement vehicle and outfit it with a new wrap. Even if the stolen truck is recovered, the nonprofit said missing parts or damage could require significant repairs.

The timing adds pressure. Donovan said 2026 has been tough for nonprofits, with individual and corporate giving both down. The truck also collects donated Christmas gifts, including bicycles for children who might otherwise go without presents during the holidays.

Hope Chest's Katy store at 6545 Stockdick School Road opened in January 2023, joining the original Cypress location at 12015 Barker Cypress Road. Together, the two stores contributed about $2 million to Cy-Hope's programs in 2024, according to the nonprofit's annual report, with volunteers logging more than 25,000 hours.

In the meantime, Hope Chest plans to share a box truck from its Cypress location to keep services running. Residents who want to donate can visit the Cy-Hope Box Truck Fund page or call the Katy store at 832-916-4585.
