A 61-year-old man rushed to a Katy-area hospital for apparent cardiac arrest on Wednesday, Oct. 7, was found to have been fatally shot in the head.

Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputies responded to the 6400 block of Hayman Drive around noon after a call about a cardiac arrest, ABC13 first reported. HCSO Lt. Walter Stensland told the station that paramedics initially believed the man had suffered a heart attack and fallen, injuring his nose. Hospital scans later revealed a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

HCSO initially said preliminary information indicated a disagreement between two possible family members led to the shooting. Stensland later told ABC13 the two men were roommates.

"There was no indication of an argument between them at this stage of the investigation," Stensland said.

The victim's 31-year-old roommate was taken in for questioning but was not considered a suspect or witness, Stensland told ABC13. Investigators have not determined whether the man was shot by his roommate or died by suicide, according to the station's report. A homicide investigation is underway.

The victim's name has not been released. Anyone with information can contact HCSO at (713) 221-6000.
