The Katy Tigers scored 42 first-half points and beat Paetow 56-14 at Legacy Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The win pushed head coach Gary Joseph's squad to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in District 19-6A, keeping Katy alone atop the standings with two regular-season games remaining.

Katy ISD Athletics noted on X that "both teams competed well" early, but the Tigers pulled away with what the district's athletics department called "a strong attack."

By halftime the score was 42-14, according to the Katy High School football account on X. Katy added a touchdown in the third quarter to make it 49-14, then scored once more in the fourth to reach the 56-14 final.

The Tigers have now outscored opponents 381-95 through eight games, per MaxPreps. That averages to nearly 48 points scored and fewer than 12 allowed per contest. Five of eight victories have come by 25 points or more, including a 55-0 shutout of Seven Lakes on Oct. 2 and a 69-6 rout of Morton Ranch on Oct. 8.

Katy entered the Paetow game ranked No. 5 in Class 6A by Dave Campbell's Texas Football, according to the Katy Times. Sports Illustrated's Oct. 13 statewide Top 25 had the Tigers at No. 7, up from No. 8 the previous week.

The closest game on Katy's schedule so far was a 28-17 win over Atascocita on Aug. 29. Since then, no opponent has come within 18 points.

Joseph said in the Katy Times' preseason preview that he wanted to see his players and coaches "rise to match or exceed the reputation and traditions of Katy High School." Through eight games, the scoreboard suggests they are doing exactly that.

Katy travels to Katy Taylor on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m., then closes the regular season at home against Mayde Creek on Friday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m.
