Mayde Creek beat Seven Lakes 25-16 at Rhodes Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 15, in a District 22-6A football game.

The Rams pulled away after what Katy ISD Athletics described as "a great back and forth game." The win gives Mayde Creek head coach Mike Arogbonlo's squad a boost after a 16-8 loss to Jordan the week before.

For Seven Lakes head coach Jimmy Hamon, the loss is the Spartans' third straight in district play. Seven Lakes fell to Morton Ranch 43-28 in late September, according to Katy Times area scores. The Spartans then lost to Katy 55-0 on Oct. 2, per a separate Katy Times recap.

That 55-0 defeat came against a Katy Tigers team that was 6-0 and ranked No. 12 in Texas by MaxPreps at the time.

Hamon entered the season with optimism about his roster. "I am enthusiastic to see some fresh faces who have worked extremely hard during the offseason perform as we begin the football season," he said in Katy ISD's preseason preview published Aug. 31. Those fresh faces have yet to find a winning formula in district competition.

Arogbonlo told Katy ISD before the season that his team had its first full offseason of preparation under his tenure. He now has a district win to build on.

The Dallas Morning News confirmed the final score in its Week 8 statewide scoreboard.

Seven Lakes and Mayde Creek both return to action in Week 9 of the District 22-6A schedule.
