Tompkins scored 49 points and held Cinco Ranch to 12 in a District 22-6A blowout Friday, Oct. 16, at Legacy Stadium.
The Falcons pulled away in the second half, according to Katy ISD Athletics, which posted the final score and noted that "a strong second half by Tompkins helps the Falcons defeat the Cougars."
The win gives Tompkins three district victories against one loss heading into the second half of the 22-6A schedule. The Falcons beat Taylor 29-12 in late September, had a bye in early October and routed Jordan 52-28 the week before facing Cinco Ranch. Their lone district loss came against Katy, 45-21, on Sept. 10 at Rhodes Stadium.
Tompkins head coach Todd McVey has seen his team outscore opponents by wide margins in each of its three district wins. McVey said in the Katy ISD fall sports preview in August that he hoped the Falcons would "reap the benefits of their hard work, grow each week through adversity and respond with Falcon pride."
Three district wins by a combined 130-52 suggest the work is paying off.
Cinco Ranch entered the game coming off a 41-34 win over Mayde Creek the previous week. The Cougars also beat Paetow 28-20 in late September but have dropped three district games this season: 30-3 to Katy, 38-13 to Taylor and now 49-12 to Tompkins.
That leaves Cinco Ranch at 2-3 in district with the back half of the schedule ahead.
Head coach Chris Dudley entered the season saying his group was "hungry to build on last year's strong season," according to the same Aug. 31 Katy ISD preview. The 37-point loss to Tompkins marks the Cougars' most lopsided defeat of the year and puts pressure on Dudley's squad to string together wins down the stretch to stay in playoff contention.
The 49 points were the second-highest output for Tompkins this district season, trailing only the 52 the Falcons hung on Jordan. Cinco Ranch, meanwhile, has allowed 30 or more points in three of its five district games.
Both teams return to District 22-6A action in Week 8.
