Cinco Ranch rolled to a 49-7 victory over Morton Ranch on Friday, Sept. 11, opening District 22-6A play at Legacy Stadium.

The 42-point win gave the Cougars their first victory of the 2026 season and improved their record to 1-1. Morton Ranch, which opened the year with a 22-0 shutout of Cypress Creek, dropped to 1-2.

Katy ISD Athletics posted the final score Friday night, saying the Cougars turned in a strong performance to defeat the Mavericks. The district account called it "a hard fought game," though the scoreboard told a different story. Kickoff had been set for 6:30 p.m. Houston Inside High School Sports also confirmed the result, reporting that Cinco Ranch "races past" the Mavericks.

Cinco Ranch head coach Chris Dudley set the tone for the season in the Katy Times' fall sports preview published Aug. 31. "We have a group that is hungry to build on last year's strong season," Dudley said then. "They are a coachable group that plays hard for each other."

Cinco Ranch entered the game ranked 107th in Class 6A by Dave Campbell's Texas Football computer rankings, while Morton Ranch sat at 202nd, according to rankings published Sept. 8. The Cougars had started the season 0-1 before Friday's blowout.

Morton Ranch head coach Nick Cavallo had expressed optimism about his roster heading into the fall. In the same Aug. 31 Katy Times preview, Cavallo said the blend of experience and new, young talent on his squad was exciting to watch. The Mavericks will look to regroup after the lopsided district loss.

Cinco Ranch improved to 1-1. Morton Ranch fell to 1-2.

Both teams are expected to return to action in Week 4 on Friday, Sept. 18, though specific opponents and game times had not been confirmed as of Saturday, Sept. 12.
