Katy High's Tigers shook off a slow start and beat Cinco Ranch 30-3 on Friday, Sept. 25, at Rhodes Stadium. The win pushed Katy to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in District 22-6A.

The Cougars struck first. Cinco Ranch held a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter, but Katy answered with 13 unanswered points before halftime. The Tigers then pulled away after the break.

Katy ISD Athletics credited a dominant second half for sealing the result, noting the Tigers took control after intermission and never looked back.

Head coach Gary Joseph's squad has won all five games by double digits. Katy opened with non-district wins over Atascocita (28-17 on Aug. 29) and Dickinson (42-24 on Sept. 4). The Tigers then swept through district opponents Tompkins (45-21 on Sept. 10) and Jordan (56-10 on Sept. 18) before dismantling Cinco Ranch. Katy has outscored opponents 201-75 this season.

Entering the Cinco Ranch game, Katy sat at No. 6 in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Class 6A statewide rankings and No. 74 nationally in the High School Football America 300.

Cinco Ranch, coached by Chris Dudley, entered the matchup 2-1 overall and 2-0 in district play after wins over Morton Ranch and Paetow. The Cougars' three points were the fewest any opponent has scored against Katy this season.

Two Tigers earned preseason recognition from the Touchdown Club of Houston. Offensive lineman Isaac Coughran and linebacker Cade Haug were named to the All-Greater Houston team in August. Katy held Cinco Ranch scoreless over the final three quarters.

"I can't wait to see how our players and coaches rise to match or exceed the reputation and traditions of Katy High School," Joseph said in Katy ISD's fall sports preview published Aug. 31. Five weeks into the season, Katy sits alone atop District 22-6A.

The Tigers host Seven Lakes on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in their next District 22-6A matchup.
