Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse opened its second Greater Houston location in Katy on Monday, Sept. 14, joining the chain's Galleria-area restaurant that has operated on Westheimer Road since 2011.

The restaurant is at 24205 Bella Katy Drive, the former Doneraki Mexican Grill and Seafood space near the Katy Freeway and less than a mile west of the Grand Parkway. Restaurant officials confirmed the opening in a Monday, Sept. 14 news release, Community Impact reported. The Houston Business Journal also confirmed the opening.

General Manager Guilherme Da Silva, a Brazilian native and Katy resident who has been with the company since its Houston restaurant opened at 5865 Westheimer Road in 2011, is running the new location.

"We've welcomed guests from Katy at our Westheimer location for many years, so it's especially exciting to now welcome them here in their own community," Da Silva said in the news release.

Da Silva said in August, ahead of the opening, that bringing Chama Gaúcha to Katy had "always been part of our vision," according to a My Neighborhood News preview. He has managed the Westheimer location since it opened.

The chain was founded in San Antonio in 2008 and now operates locations in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, the Chicago area and two in San Antonio.

The Katy restaurant centers on rodízio-style tableside service. Gauchos carve open-flame grilled meats at the table, offering unlimited servings of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and Brazilian sausage. Guests control the pace with a card: green means ready for more, red means pause. The beef is USDA Prime, Midwest corn-fed and aged more than 45 days, according to the company. Featured cuts include picanha, filet mignon, ribeye, costela and fraldinha bottom sirloin.

A salad bar with more than 30 items, including cheeses and charcuterie, is included with the full churrasco meal or can be ordered on its own. Sides include caramelized bananas, garlic mashed potatoes, fried polenta and pão de queijo, a warm Brazilian cheese bread.

The Katy location also features five private dining rooms that can accommodate groups of 20 to 150 guests.
