Cinco Ranch High School graduate Fei Feng turned a Katy ISD engineering class project into a board game now selling online.

Feng appeared on KHOU's Great Day Houston to talk about Orbio, the abstract strategy board game she first built as a Technology Student Association (TSA) project in the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Katy ISD highlighted the appearance on social media Aug. 28, calling it an example of a CTE engineering project becoming a successful product launch.

Feng developed the original Orbio concept for a TSA competition and kept refining it during her senior year at Cinco Ranch. She launched the game on Kickstarter, raising $12,000. Orbio is now available for purchase at gpca.com.

The awards stacked up. Feng won a Best of Show award from the Mayor of Houston in November 2025 and a Most Marketable Award at the Young Inventor Challenge through People of Play that same month. She also earned a TSA STEM contest award in March 2024.

"Taking an idea from a sketch all the way to a real product that people can actually play and own … Knowing that I accomplished that while I was still in high school makes it especially meaningful," Feng told The Bloom Report in an Aug. 27 interview.

Feng said the Kickstarter campaign opened doors in the toy industry, connecting her with professionals who led her to People of Play and the Young Inventor Challenge. She described games like Connect Four, Chinese Checkers and Blokus as inspirations for Orbio's design: easy to learn but still requiring strategic thinking.

Feng attended Cinco Ranch from 2022 to 2026 and holds certifications in Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Adobe Illustrator. She is now a student at Carnegie Mellon University, where she was playtesting new Orbio cards with dorm floormates as of Aug. 27, according to the People of Play interview.

Katy ISD's CTE program, overseen by Dr. Nick Gonzales, has produced a string of student achievements. In a July 30 statement celebrating three national Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) championships, Gonzales said the district's CTE work "reinforces Katy ISD's commitment to providing meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for college, careers and life."
