Two suspects face felony theft charges after the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office (FBCSO) linked them to roughly $70,000 in copper wire stolen from a business along the Grand Parkway near Katy.
Abraham Santiago, 38, and Magnum Schexneider, 31, were arrested in Houston and booked into the Fort Bend County Jail. Each faces a $100,000 bond, the sheriff's office announced on X on Monday, Sept. 28.
The investigation began after deputies responded to a Gallery Furniture store in the 7200 block of W. Grand Parkway on Sept. 22. Someone had stolen copper power cables from air-conditioning equipment, ABC13 reported.
That Sept. 22 theft was not an isolated incident. It was the fourth time the same store had been hit since Aug. 5, according to the report. The four thefts together totaled about $70,000 in reported losses.
Surveillance video captured images of two suspects during the Sept. 22 theft, detectives said, according to ABC13. The footage gave investigators a starting point.
The public helped close the case. Law enforcement said information shared on social media and tips from community members led detectives to identify Santiago and Schexneider as suspects, according to the report.
After obtaining felony theft warrants, FBCSO detectives coordinated with Harris County Sheriff's Office officials to locate the pair in Houston. The two agencies arrested Santiago and Schexneider together. The sheriff's office did not specify the exact arrest date, though ABC13 reported the arrests occurred on a Thursday before its Sept. 28 publication.
The FBCSO stated the thefts resulted in approximately $70,000 in reported losses. No court dates or additional details about the ongoing case have been announced.
