Fulshear is getting a new fire station in the heart of downtown.

The Fulshear-Simonton Fire Department broke ground Tuesday, Oct. 20, on Station 5 at 30610 Fifth St., a two-story facility that will sit on 2.5 acres and serve one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, Covering Katy reported.

The roughly 10,600-square-foot station will include two apparatus bays for emergency vehicles and living quarters for up to eight firefighters. PGAL designed the building, and Bass Construction Co. is the general contractor. Construction is expected to wrap up by May 31, 2027.

Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 4 (ESD No. 4), which funds and oversees the fire department, hosted the ceremony alongside local officials. ESD No. 4 Board President Tommy Kuykendall and Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales both attended.

"Our firefighters work hard every day to protect our families and communities, and it's great to see continued investments in the people who keep us safe," Morales said at the ceremony.

The station arrives as Fulshear's population continues to surge. The city grew 21% between July 2024 and July 2025, reaching an estimated 64,630 residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released in May. That made Fulshear the second-fastest growing city in the nation for the third consecutive year, trailing only Celina in the north Dallas suburbs, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The fire department serves communities across ESD No. 4, which covers more than 106 square miles of Fort Bend County, according to the department's website. The department holds an ISO Class 3 rating, a measure of fire protection capability.

The department said in a statement that the project reflects its push to keep pace with the area's growth.

No total project cost has been publicly disclosed.

Station 5 is expected to open once construction finishes in 2027.
