Fulshear put up 37 points on the road Thursday, Oct. 22, and beat Richmond George Ranch 37-9 to snap a two-game losing streak in District 23-6A play.
The win moved the Chargers to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in district, according to MaxPreps. Fulshear sits fourth in the 23-6A standings with two games left in the regular season.
CW39 first reported the final score in its Thursday night roundup of Week 9 results across the Houston area.
It was a sharp turnaround. The Chargers had been outscored 73-14 over back-to-back losses to Cypress Ranch and Bridgeland, as we reported Oct. 20. The 49-7 home loss to district-leading Bridgeland on Oct. 16 was the low point of a season that started 5-0.
Against George Ranch, the offense looked more like the unit that outscored opponents 201-50 through its first five games. Fulshear has now scored 252 points and allowed 132 on the season, per MaxPreps.
George Ranch was 1-3 in district entering Week 8, according to the Fort Bend Herald. The Longhorns needed wins down the stretch to stay in the playoff conversation. The 28-point loss makes that path significantly harder.
The fourth-place standing matters. The top four teams in District 23-6A advance to the playoffs. Fulshear was tied with Cypress Springs for that final spot entering Week 8, per the Fort Bend Herald. The George Ranch win gives head coach Stephen Hill's squad a cushion heading into the final two weeks.
Hill's team opened the year with five straight wins, including a 56-0 shutout of Fort Bend Bush and a 38-0 blanking of Foster. Junior running back Jayelen Collins rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown in the Foster win, according to our earlier coverage. No individual statistics from the George Ranch game were available at publication.
Fulshear has two district games remaining. The Chargers travel to Cypress Springs on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m., then close the regular season at home against Cypress Park on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
