Fulshear's free police-led class for new drivers is back next week.

The Fulshear Police Department's Rookie Responders program is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Fulshear City Hall Municipal Complex, 6611 W. Cross Creek Bend Blvd. The session is free and open to any student driver, regardless of where they live, Katy Magazine reported.

Fulshear Police Captain Mike McCoy, who has led the program for eight years, teaches the one-hour interactive session. It covers how to handle a traffic stop safely, the dangers of distracted driving and practical tips for new drivers.

McCoy said the idea grew from a conversation with a young man who had just received his license. When McCoy asked whether the teen knew what to do if pulled over, the answer was blunt: "They don't teach us that."

Parents are encouraged to attend but are not required to. Registration details are available through the Fulshear Police Department.
