A $5.5 million expansion is underway at Harmony Science Academy-Katy, adding a gym, cafeteria and outdoor facilities to the charter school's campus on Grand Corner Drive.
The project includes a 13,280-square-foot building with a basketball court with seating, a cafeteria and a food-service area, Covering Katy News first reported. Site improvements also call for a soccer field, a second basketball court, a pavilion, a playground, an outdoor classroom and a climbing structure, according to Harmony construction documents.
For families at the campus at 22400 Grand Corner Drive, the addition means dedicated athletic and dining space the school currently lacks. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing pegs the estimated cost at $5.5 million.
The project also includes driveway modifications, an extension of an existing canopy and façade and branding updates to campus buildings.
Timeline slipped
The original TDLR filing anticipated construction starting in June 2025 and finishing in June 2026. That schedule slipped. Harmony sought construction bids in late 2025, with bids closing in December 2025. Construction industry records list a Feb. 10, 2026, start date.
Construction was still underway at the campus as of Oct. 2, according to Covering Katy. No revised completion date has been publicly announced, meaning families do not yet know when the new facilities will be ready.
Harmony expanding across Fort Bend County
The Katy expansion is one piece of a larger Harmony Public Schools building effort in the Fort Bend County area. The charter system is also constructing two new elementary campuses in Rosenberg and Missouri City, both set to open for the 2027-28 school year and each designed to serve 650 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade.
"We couldn't be more excited to officially join the Rosenberg community," Ramazan Coskuner, Harmony's South-West district superintendent, said at an Oct. 1 beam-signing ceremony for the Rosenberg campus.
Harmony says the system holds an A rating from the Texas Education Agency. The charter network operates more than 60 campuses across Texas.
