Twelve new businesses have opened across Katy since early August, adding restaurants, retail and services along the I-10 and Grand Parkway corridors.
Community Impact first reported the cluster of openings Thursday, Oct. 1, listing a mix of dining, wellness, education and shopping destinations. The wave follows a separate batch of 12 openings the outlet tracked Sept. 3.
Among the biggest arrivals is Lowe's of West Katy, which opened Sept. 4 at Texas Heritage Marketplace along Interstate 10 at Texas Heritage Parkway. The store spans about 95,000 square feet of retail space with a 30,000-square-foot outdoor garden center, according to USA Today. It is expected to employ more than 100 workers and is among the first Lowe's locations to debut a redesigned tool section with wider aisles and lower fixtures, Covering Katy reported. Store Manager Mike Spall called Katy "growing fast" in a statement tied to the opening.
Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse opened Sept. 9 at 24205 Bella Katy Drive, becoming at least the fourth churrascaria along the Katy Freeway at Grand Parkway corridor. General Manager Guilherme Da Silva, a Brazilian native and longtime Katy resident who managed the brand's Westheimer location since it opened in 2011, runs the new restaurant. It features tableside-carved meats, a salad bar with more than 30 items and five private dining rooms for groups of 20 to 150.
Burger Bodega, a Houston-born smashburger concept, opened its first expansion location Sept. 19 at 21904 Franz Rd. The restaurant seats more than 100 guests and includes a patio and a dedicated pickup window. Chef-owner Abbas Dhanani started the concept as a backyard pop-up before opening on Washington Avenue. The original location landed on the Houston Chronicle's 10 Best New Restaurants of 2022.
"This grand opening is for everyone who has supported us since we were slinging burgers out of a backyard pop-up," Dhanani said in a Sept. 10 announcement.
Spectators Bar & Grill opened its fourth Houston-area location Aug. 5 at 25140 Kingsland Blvd., replacing the former Scholars & Scoundrels. It seats 275 guests. The 6,500-square-foot sports bar features 45 televisions and a patio with a 19-seat bar. Owner Aneal Mohammud has two Sugar Land locations and one in Richmond.
Smash City Burgers, a halal eatery offering smash burgers, wings and specialty milkshakes, held its grand opening Aug. 29-30 in Katy. The Collective Boutiques, a marketplace for independent shop owners, opened at 6729 S. Fry Rd. in the Cinco Ranch area.
The remaining openings round out the list: Busy Noodles, a Chinese comfort food spot with handmade noodles and boba tea; Peachwave, a self-serve frozen yogurt and gelato shop; Simply South, a vegetarian Indian restaurant; The Only Facial, a skincare studio; Aesthetica MD Med Spa; and Best Brains, a learning center for math, English, coding and abacus.
Target is expected to open Oct. 11 at Texas Heritage Marketplace, where Sam's Club is also under construction.
