Families zoned to Youngblood Elementary will send their children to a brand-new campus starting in fall 2027 after the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved attendance boundary changes Monday, Oct. 26.

The board's vote creates an attendance zone for Elementary #49, a school under construction at 6435 Pitts Road in the district's northwest quadrant. The campus is funded through the voter-approved 2023 Katy ISD bond, according to a district announcement.

Designated areas now zoned to Youngblood Elementary will shift to the new school, creating additional capacity at both campuses. District enrollment projections on the Katy ISD boundary modification page show Youngblood at a projected 1,295 students for 2026-27, or 126% of its capacity, with that number climbing to 3,348 by 2035-36 without relief.

Board President Lance Redmon said the changes will help balance enrollment at existing schools and establish attendance zones for the new campus.

The boundary modifications were shaped by data from the district's demographer, Population and Survey Analysts, along with input from campus principals, administrators and parents.

Other campuses affected

The board also approved minor boundary shifts at four other campuses:

  • Wolfe Elementary: Students in two land-use zones will move to Bear Creek Elementary.
  • West Memorial Elementary: Students in one full zone and part of another will shift to Cimarron Elementary, which the district says is underutilized.
  • Mayde Creek Junior High: One zone will move to Cardiff Junior High to balance enrollment between the two campuses.
  • Cinco Ranch High School: One zone will shift to Tompkins High School.

A separate high school feeder-pattern change will move students in one West Memorial-area zone from Katy High School to Taylor High School, according to the district's boundary modification page.

All changes take effect in August 2027 for the 2027-28 school year.

Naming the new school

In a separate action, the board approved forming a Naming Advisory Committee for Elementary #49. Community members can submit name nominations through 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Nominations must include a completed form, biographical or historical information about the nominee, a description of the nominee's contributions and a statement explaining why the school should carry the proposed name. The district asks that nominators review Katy ISD Board Policy CW before submitting.

Details and the nomination form are available on the district's School and Facility Naming webpage. The deadline to submit is 4 p.m. Nov. 4.
