Katy ISD welcomed 17 former athletes, coaches and staff into its Athletic Hall of Honor on Oct. 16 at Legacy Stadium.

The annual ceremony also inducted one team: the 2016 Cinco Ranch High School Lady Cougar wrestling squad, which won a state championship that season. Three members of that team earned individual honors as well, according to Covering Katy News.

Wrestlers Kayla De Leon, Charlotte Fowler and Taylor Rosario each received both team and individual recognition. De Leon, a 2018 Cinco Ranch graduate, was a four-time district wrestling champion and two-time individual state champion. Fowler, a 2016 graduate who captained the state title team, later won a national under-23 championship and qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Rosario won a cadet freestyle national championship and claimed an individual state title as a senior.

Lance Carter, Katy ISD's executive director of athletics, said the ceremony honors those who shaped the district's programs.

"The Athletic Hall of Honor is an opportunity to recognize the people and teams who helped build the foundation of Katy ISD athletics," Carter said, as reported by the Katy Times.

Several inductees built long coaching careers in the district. Jimmy Krueger, a 2002 Katy High graduate who left as the school's all-time leading goal scorer, returned to coach at Seven Lakes High School. He led the Spartans to back-to-back Class 6A boys soccer state championships in 2023 and 2024, the first two boys soccer state titles in Katy ISD history.

Dianne Bell Loftin coached girls soccer at Katy High for 36 years, recording 432 career victories and 26 playoff appearances, according to the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

Darryl Metcalfe and Pam Metcalfe were inducted together. Darryl compiled a 242-55-41 record coaching boys soccer at Taylor High School and later helped Seven Lakes win the 2023 state title as an assistant. Pam went 166-32-12 coaching girls soccer at Taylor, reaching the state finals in 2000 and 2001.

The class spanned decades.

Trevor Enders, a 1993 Taylor High graduate and three-time all-district pitcher, played Major League Baseball for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2000. Chasity Villarreal, a 2014 Cinco Ranch graduate, went 40-0 as a senior and won an individual state wrestling championship.

Robert "Bob" Turney taught and coached at West Memorial Junior High from 1977 to 2019. His teams won 13 district championships across football, basketball and volleyball. He also directed officials for Katy ISD's summer youth basketball league for about 20 years.

Brenda John-Israel, a 2004 Mayde Creek graduate, earned All-America honors in track and field at the University of Miami. Neil Kallmeyer, a 1987 Taylor High swimmer, became a nine-time Southwest Conference finalist at Texas A&M.

Other inductees included Julie Vetterick, a longtime athletics administrative assistant, and Patty Hyatt Henson, Katy High's dance and drill team director from 1983 until her retirement. Carlos Rocha, a 1995 Katy High football standout, helped the Tigers reach the 1994 state semifinals. Kendall Stacks, a 2011 Seven Lakes graduate, earned four varsity letters in baseball.

Janell Lysack, a 2010 Seven Lakes graduate and four-year golf letter winner, died in October 2021. Her family established the Janell Lysack Joslin Foundation, which has distributed more than $50,000 in scholarships and contributions to organizations she supported. The foundation awards three athletic scholarships annually to graduating seniors.
