Katy ISD high schoolers will change your oil for $20 or style your hair for $15. Those services and more run out of Miller Career & Technology Center's four student-operated businesses on Katyland Drive.

The campus, open to juniors and seniors across the 96,111-student district, runs The Garage at Miller, The Salon at Miller, The Dog Wash at Miller and the Old Town Bistro. Each business serves the public at discounted prices while students earn industry credentials, Katy Magazine reported Monday, Sept. 28.

A Katy ISD representative said community patronage "is vital to the success of these programs" and that residents who use the services are "directly investing in student learning."

The Garage is a student-led auto shop where every vehicle is serviced by students under a shop teacher's supervision. An oil change and tire rotation cost $20. Brake pad replacement runs $40 for front or back, $80 for both.

Prices cover labor only; customers supply their own parts and fluids. The shop accepts credit and debit cards. No cash. To schedule, call 281-237-7574 or email [email protected], according to the Garage's page on the MCTC website.

The Salon is staffed by cosmetology students supervised by licensed instructors. Services range from a $15 shampoo and condition to a $35 haircut with blow-dry and thermal style. A basic manicure starts at $15.

Waxing services include eyebrow ($10), lip ($5) and chin ($8). Appointments must be requested at least one week ahead by emailing [email protected].

The Dog Wash opened Friday, Sept. 25 for the 2026-2027 school year. All dogs must have current rabies vaccines. Appointments are required and can be booked by emailing [email protected]. Payment is prepaid through PayNGO.

Old Town Bistro, the campus culinary program's restaurant, is closed to the public until January 2027, according to the MCTC website. The restaurant is cashless. Catering for events and meetings is available through Ruth Delaney at 281-237-9572 or [email protected].

Beyond the four businesses, MCTC offers 15 additional Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs spanning health science, law enforcement, engineering, information technology and education. Principal Kelley Kirila oversees the center at 1734 Katyland Drive, west of Rhodes Stadium. Campus hours are 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., and the phone number is 281-237-6300.
