Seven Lakes sits atop District 22-6A volleyball with a perfect 10-0 district record, but playoff seeding remains undecided heading into the final regular-season match.

MaxPreps standings updated Tuesday, Oct. 6, show the Spartans at 24-10 overall. Tompkins is one game back at 10-1 in district and 24-6 overall. Katy sits third at 7-4 (18-13), and Katy Taylor is fourth at 6-5 (17-18).

Katy ISD Athletics said on X on Oct. 6 that the playoff race remains close and will be decided by the final match of the season. The district's athletic department made a similar statement Sept. 28, calling the race "extremely close" as teams entered the final stretch.

Seven Lakes has been the district's hottest team. The Spartans went unranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Class 6A poll through the first seven weeks of the season before entering at No. 21 on Sept. 21. By Sept. 28, they had climbed to No. 15. As we reported Oct. 2, Seven Lakes' rise coincided with Tompkins' slide in the state rankings.

Tompkins' season has followed the opposite arc. The Falcons reached No. 1 in the TGCA poll on Aug. 18 but tumbled to No. 24 by Sept. 1. They recovered to No. 22 by Sept. 15, then dropped out of the top 25 entirely on Sept. 21 before re-entering at No. 22 on Sept. 28. Both teams started the year ranked in the top 10 of the TGCA preseason poll, with Seven Lakes at No. 7 and Tompkins at No. 8.

The stat leaders tell the story of each team's strengths. Senior Gracie Hobin leads Seven Lakes with 59 serving aces this season, and junior Nlonna Okwura anchors the front row with 92 total blocks. For Katy, junior Sidney Paxton has recorded 824 assists.

VYPE Houston's end-of-September rankings placed Seven Lakes sixth and Tompkins seventh among 6A programs in the Houston area. Katy earned an "Others to Watch" mention.

In recent district action, Tompkins defeated Katy 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 2. Katy responded with a five-set win over Cinco Ranch on Friday, Oct. 2.

Four teams are separated by four games in the district loss column, and the final match of the regular season will sort out who goes where in the playoff bracket.
