Target's largest food-forward store in the Greater Houston area opens Sunday, Oct. 11, at Texas Heritage Marketplace in west Katy.
The retailer held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the 148,000-square-foot location at 29355 Katy Freeway, drawing developers, elected officials and Target employees, Community Impact first reported. Katy Mayor Dusty Thiele attended the event.
The store is expected to create about 200 jobs. It will be Target's fourth location serving the broader Katy market, My Neighborhood News reported. Listed hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Inside, shoppers will find a Starbucks, CVS Pharmacy and Target Optical. The store includes an expanded grocery section with fresh produce, meat and dairy, along with covered Drive Up lanes and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360.
EV charging stations are on-site.
Austin Alvis, president and chief development officer of NewQuest Properties, told attendees his firm purchased the land a decade ago. Construction escalated over the past three years, and the pace is picking up.
"A big project like this, all at once, is super exciting because we just opened Lowe's, they're starting to have other tenants open, Whataburger open," Alvis said at the ceremony. "Then we'll have another 40 tenants open over the course of the next six months."
Lowe's opened Sept. 4 at the development. Whataburger is also already serving customers.
Texas Heritage Marketplace is a $400 million, 165-acre mixed-use project at I-10 and Texas Heritage Parkway in Waller County. NewQuest plans roughly 750,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 300,000 square feet of medical and self-storage space, and 550 apartments at full buildout, according to a NewQuest news release distributed by the Katy Area EDC.
A Sam's Club is under construction with an early 2027 opening targeted.
City officials have estimated the development will generate roughly $3 million in annual sales tax revenue for Katy once operational, according to the Katy Area EDC.
Other confirmed tenants include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Burlington, Ulta Beauty, Spec's and restaurants such as Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden and Escalante's. NewQuest said in April that junior-anchor space for those retailers is scheduled for first-quarter 2027 delivery.
The development sits four to five miles west of Katy's existing retail concentration along I-10, serving master-planned communities including Jordan Ranch, Cane Island, Cross Creek Ranch and Firethorne.
NewQuest expects roughly 40 more tenants to open at the site over the next six months.
