Bo's Place opens free children's grief groups at Katy campus

Katy families grieving the death of a loved one now have a free support option closer to home.

Bo's Place, a Houston nonprofit that has provided bereavement services for more than three decades, is opening its first west Houston location inside the Amazing Place West campus at 621 Circle deMatel, near I-10 and Fry Road. The expansion, reported by The Katy News on Wednesday, Aug. 26, arrives days before National Grief Awareness Day on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The new site will host in-person family grief support groups for children ages 5 to 18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or another person significant to their family. Groups are led by trained volunteer facilitators under the supervision of Bo's Place clinicians and offered in English and Spanish. All services are free.

Bo's Place stated in its announcement that the Katy location means west Houston families will no longer need to drive into central Houston to access its programs. The nonprofit's headquarters remain at 10050 Buffalo Speedway in central Houston.

The organization also offers an Adult and Young Adult Group and a Pregnancy Loss Group, both available online.

Bo's Place describes its programs as the only ongoing grief support in the greater Houston area designed specifically for grieving children and their families. The nonprofit stated that no one should have to grieve alone and that help is now closer to home for Katy-area families.

Named in memory of Laurence "Bo" Bosworth Neuhaus Jr., who died of liver cancer in 1985 at age 12, Bo's Place started in 1990 as a grief support phone line. It expanded into children's group programming in 1995 and moved to a purpose-built facility in 2005.

The Amazing Place West campus, a 19,000-square-foot brain health center led by Executive Director Tracey Brown, opened in September 2025 and provides the shared space for the new grief groups. Bo's Place held open houses at the site in May and June to introduce the program to the community.
