Students and staff at Bryant Elementary unveiled a mural on Monday, Aug. 17, honoring Robert "Bob" and Felice Bryant, the retired Katy ISD educators whose combined 55 years in the district earned them a school bearing their name.

The mural, located near the learning stairs inside the campus, gives the school's roughly 1,134 pre-K through fifth-grade students a daily visual reminder of the couple's legacy, according to a Katy ISD Facebook post announcing the unveiling.

Bob Bryant arrived at Katy High School in 1983 as head band director, also serving as fine arts department chair. He was promoted to executive director of fine arts for the district in 2000, a role in which he oversaw programming for more than 60,000 students and 300-plus teachers. He retired in August 2015 after more than 41 years as a public school educator. Along the way, he earned the 2007–2008 Texas Music Administrator of the Year award and the Houston Symphony's Jacob L. and Sophia Meyer Farb School Bell Award for Lifetime Achievement in Music Education in 2015. He was inducted into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 2018.

Felice Bryant spent 29 years teaching kindergarten and first grade, 25 of them in Katy ISD. She was named Katy Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1997 and retired in 2012.

The couple's teaching careers began in Sudan, Texas, where Bob started as a band director in 1974 and Felice began teaching kindergarten in 1976. Both are Texas Tech University graduates. According to the school's namesake page, they have logged a combined total of more than 70 years in public education.

Neither has fully stepped away. Both serve as KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) mentors, each working with three students across three different campuses. In an August 2023 interview with ABC13, Felice described the hands-on nature of their visits: "We open up the ketchup packets or help them with their milk or whatever the case may be. We might just work with small groups in reading or math or even with fifth grade math games."

Bryant Elementary opened in August 2017 as Katy ISD's 40th elementary school, located in the Young Ranch subdivision south of Interstate 10 at Pederson Road and Kingsland Boulevard. Principal Ashley Pierce leads the campus.

The district has not released details about the mural's artist or imagery. As of Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Katy ISD Facebook post had drawn 350 reactions, 53 comments and 22 shares. The Bryants, meanwhile, continue showing up across six campuses as KEYS mentors.
