CUREageous 5K returns to Cross Creek West Oct. 24

Fulshear runners can sign up now for the third annual CUREageous 5K Fun Run, which returns to Cross Creek West on Saturday, Oct. 24, with all proceeds going to inflammatory breast cancer research.

The race starts at 8 a.m. at 4803 Garden Crest Lane. Early-bird registration is $30 through Sept. 1, then rises to $35. Race-day registration costs $45. Runners who recruit five friends to register get their own entry free.

The price jumps fast.

The event benefits the IBC Network Foundation, an all-volunteer charity based in nearby Sealy that has funded research at MD Anderson, Vanderbilt, Dana Farber and the University of Delaware. The foundation focuses exclusively on inflammatory breast cancer, a rare but aggressive subtype that accounts for 1 to 5 percent of all U.S. breast cancer diagnoses and carries a five-year survival rate of roughly 40 percent, according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Unlike more common forms of the disease, IBC often does not present with a lump, making early detection difficult.

Race organizers say on the event's registration page that participants can help make a meaningful difference in the fight against IBC.

After the race, runners and families can stick around for a post-race celebration featuring a DJ, food trucks, yard games and face painting. Parking on race day is available at Haygood Elementary, 31620 Fulshear Bend Drive, which opened on-site in the Cross Creek West community in 2025.

Cross Creek West, a 1,258-acre master-planned community on FM 359, will eventually hold more than 3,000 homes. The Katy Times reported on the race's return Aug. 20.
