Fuzzy's Taco Shop closed its Katy restaurant on Mason Road after just eight months in business, part of a complete exit from the Houston market.

The location at 233 S. Mason Road shut down Sunday, Aug. 30, along with the chain's Sugar Land and Kingwood restaurants, the only three Fuzzy's left in the Greater Houston area, Community Impact reported. All three were operated by brothers Miro and Andrew Nazarian through their NGE Group, according to Covering Katy.

No one has explained why.

Restaurant representatives confirmed the closures to Community Impact but did not give a reason. Neither Fuzzy's corporate office nor NGE responded to requests for comment from the Houston Chronicle.

The Katy location had opened Dec. 22, 2025, as part of a rebrand from the original counter-service Fuzzy's Taco Shop to Fuzzy's Tacos & Margs. The sit-down concept featured tableside service and servers called "tacotenders." At the time, Fuzzy's President and CMO Patrick Kirk said in a press release that the restaurant was "a space built for good vibes, great food, and welcoming hospitality."

The closure also ended Friday Night Classics, a biweekly classic car gathering held in the restaurant's parking lot. The group's Facebook page announced the cancellation of its next event, posting that "Fuzzy's is closing for business."

The brand's troubles extend well beyond Katy. Dine Brands Global, which also owns IHOP and Applebee's, bought Fuzzy's for $80 million in 2022 when the chain had 138 restaurants in 13 states. That count has fallen steadily: 117 by the end of 2024, 106 by the end of 2025 and 97 as of Sept. 3, the Chronicle reported. A Dine Brands SEC filing showed Fuzzy's same-restaurant sales dropped 7% for the fiscal year, and franchise revenue fell $2.3 million.

The nearest remaining Fuzzy's is now in Beaumont. The chain's core footprint remains in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

A planned Fuzzy's location in Fulshear's Jordan Ranch development at 29807 Jordan Crossing Blvd. also appears to have been scrapped. A site plan originally showed a Fuzzy's tenant for that space, which is now slated for a dual-brand Applebee's and IHOP, My Neighborhood News reported. Both brands are also owned by Dine Brands.

No replacement tenant has been announced for the Mason Road space.
