A stretch of the Grand Parkway's northbound frontage road at Peek Road remains shut down 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and won't reopen until Aug. 31, according to the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority's weekly closure notice for the week of Aug. 17–24.

The round-the-clock closure began July 31. A mid-July FBCTRA notice had listed the closure as running only through that date. It now stretches a full month beyond, through Aug. 31. The reason hasn't been disclosed.

Peek Road has already been drawing community attention. KPRC 2 reported Aug. 1 that Katy residents were pushing for improvements to the corridor.

Other toll road closures

The Grand Parkway isn't the only Fort Bend County toll road with active construction. On the Fort Bend Parkway, the northbound right main lane and shoulder are closed from the Extension Plaza to the Chimney Rock exit daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 21. That work falls within the Harris County Toll Road Authority-managed portion of the road. No closures were announced for the Westpark Tollway this week.

Congestion context

The closures come as the Grand Parkway corridor between South Fry Road and Morton Ranch Road already ranks among the most congested stretches of highway in Texas. A 2024 Texas A&M Transportation Institute study found that segment logged 1.48 million hours of annual delay, costing drivers $37.55 million in lost time and fuel. It ranked 61st statewide for congestion.

"There's a lot of traffic out there today, and it's only going to get worse as more and more homes are built out to the west of Fulshear," David Gornet, who was serving as FBCTRA executive director at the time, said in September 2025 when the Katy Area Economic Development Council highlighted the corridor's congestion challenges.

What drivers should know

The toll road authority advises drivers to allow extra travel time and watch for workers and shifting traffic patterns in the affected areas. The Peek Road frontage road closure is scheduled to lift Aug. 31.
