A driver was shot and killed on the Grand Parkway near Rayford Road on Sunday, Oct. 25, after a crash turned into a shooting, Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said.
The shooting happened on the main lanes of State Highway 99 in Montgomery County. The Grand Parkway is a corridor many Katy and Fulshear residents use regularly. Doolittle called the information preliminary.
According to KHOU, which first reported the story, the driver of a red vehicle struck another vehicle on the highway. Both vehicles stopped. Doolittle said the driver of the red vehicle then fired several shots at the other driver before fleeing the scene.
The other driver died.
In a separate public safety alert on Facebook, Doolittle described the sequence differently, writing that "a shooting occurred between the occupants of the two vehicles." It remains unclear from public statements whether both occupants were armed or whether only one fired.
The sheriff's office has not released a description of the suspect beyond the red vehicle. No make, model or license plate information has been made public. The victim's identity has not been released either.
Doolittle asked anyone who was near the area at the time of the shooting or who may have dashcam footage to contact investigators.
"Even seemingly minor details could be critical to the investigation," he wrote.
Doolittle said the sheriff's office would release additional details as the investigation progresses. Anyone with information can leave an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-392-7867.
