Ten adoptable dogs and cats have moved into model homes at Grange, the master-planned community near Morton Road and FM 2855 in Katy.

The Paws and Porches Home Tour, running through Sept. 30, places one shelter animal from Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) inside each of the development's 10 model homes. Each stop features a large display with the pet's photo and story, the Katy Times reported.

Admission is free.

CAP, headquartered on Katy Freeway in Houston, has placed more than 20,500 animals in homes as of August. The nonprofit partners with Grange, a Johnson Development Co. community planned for about 2,400 homes, for the month-long event.

"Paws and Porches will be a fun way to bring together two things that make a community feel like home," said Amanda Burke, director of marketing for Grange. "Guests will be able to tour our gorgeous models and maybe make a difference in the lives of a dog or cat awaiting a loving home."

Visitors can pick up a Pawprint Guide at the first model home and collect a stamp at each of the 10 stops. Anyone who completes the guide enters a drawing for a $500 H-E-B gift card.

Every QR code scanned at a model home triggers a $5 donation from Grange to CAP. A separate $5 donation goes to the nonprofit when visitors photograph themselves at the Grange Dog House Photo Op and post the image tagging @Grange_TX on social media.

Builders at Grange are also collecting pet supplies. Suggested donations include unopened cans and bags of pet food for puppies, kittens and adult animals, plus hand sanitizer and pill pockets. Organizers ask that donated food contain no artificial dyes.

Realtors bringing clients to the tour earn one entry per client QR scan into a separate drawing for a $200 Taste of Texas gift card.

The community is zoned to Katy ISD and currently feeds into Katy High School. A junior high is scheduled to open within the community in 2028, followed by an elementary school in 2029.
