Houston Methodist is building a new emergency care center on Katy's far west side, with a groundbreaking celebration set for Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 29133 Katy Freeway.
The 11,150-square-foot facility represents an estimated $10 million investment within the Texas Heritage Marketplace development at Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway, according to My Neighborhood News. Completion is targeted for June 30, 2027, though the timeline may have shifted since those details were reported in April.
The City of Katy posted a notice of possible quorum on Oct. 5, indicating that a quorum of the Katy City Council may attend the ceremony. The council will not take formal action. The groundbreaking runs from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 8 but was postponed, according to a separate city notice.
The one-story emergency center will sit inside Texas Heritage Marketplace, a 165-acre mixed-use development by NewQuest Properties. The project is planned to exceed 750,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space when fully built out, Covering Katy reported.
Texas Heritage Parkway provides a 6.5-mile link between I-10 and Fulshear, positioning the emergency center to serve residents of master-planned communities including Cane Island, Cross Creek Ranch, Firethorne, Jordan Ranch, Lakehouse, Young Ranch, Sunterra and Tamarron. More than 144,000 people live within a five-mile radius of the site, according to the April My Neighborhood News report.
"With a project this size, we typically develop it in phases," NewQuest managing director David Meyers said in an August interview with Covering Katy. "But the demand for retail in this high-growth area is immediate so everyone is committed to getting it done as quickly as possible."
The emergency center is part of a broader Houston Methodist push into the Katy corridor. The health system announced a $247 million expansion in 2024, including $185 million in improvements to Houston Methodist West Hospital and $62 million for community facilities, according to My Neighborhood News. Houston Methodist opened the $62 million Cinco Ranch Comprehensive Care Center at 6601 Cinco Rose Drive in April, a 67,000-square-foot facility with 68 exam rooms and more than 30 physicians, according to Community Impact.
"Everything is designed for the patient in mind and the patient at the center …" Houston Methodist CEO Marc L. Boom said at the Cinco Ranch center's ribbon-cutting in April, as Community Impact reported.
The Oct. 7 groundbreaking is open to the public at 29133 Katy Freeway.
