A dozen new businesses have opened across Katy and Fulshear, half of them dining spots spanning Vietnamese, Thai, Indian and Italian menus.
Community Impact reported Sept. 4 that the openings follow a separate roundup of nine businesses that opened in the area in August, underscoring steady commercial growth along the Grand Parkway and I-10 corridors.
Six dining spots
Taste of India opened July 1 at 943 S. Mason Road in Katy. Owner Pankaj Jariwala confirmed the opening, according to Community Impact. The menu includes chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, garlic naan and vegetable samosa.
Ember + Lotus, a family-owned Thai eatery, blends Thai staples with Texas barbecue. Its Panang curry is made with burnt ends, according to Community Impact. The restaurant also serves noodles, fried rice and soups.
Madame Mai serves Vietnamese dishes such as shaking beef fried rice, sandwiches and crispy egg noodles at 2004 S. Mason Road, Ste. D5, in Katy.
Zio Al's Pizza & Pasta, a late-night chain based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, opened its first Greater Houston location in Katy, according to Community Impact. The menu covers pizza, pasta, calzones, wings and salads.
Masala Pizza & Bitezz, a modern fusion restaurant specializing in pizzas, wings and burgers, also opened its first Greater Houston location in the area.
16 Handles, a frozen yogurt and soft serve shop, opened at 4906 FM 1463, Suite 400, in The Market at Cross Creek Ranch. Fulshear residents Min Lee and Chris So own the 1,400-square-foot shop, which is expected to employ about 18 people and offers 16 rotating flavors and 50 toppings.
"We've lived in the area for years and wanted to bring something fun and family-friendly to the community," Lee and So said at the shop's July 25 grand opening, as reported by Covering Katy.
Beyond the table
Goodwill Houston opened its Katy Firethorne store July 24 at 1711 Spring Green Blvd., Suite 100, in the Shops at Katy Reserve. The roughly 9,251-square-foot location is the nonprofit's first new store in nearly eight years, My Neighborhood News reported. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday through Sunday. Thursday hours begin at 9:30 a.m.
Petfolk, a veterinary practice offering primary, urgent and surgical care, expanded into Fulshear.
INVNCIBLE opened a fitness and wellness facility in Katy with strength and cardio equipment, recovery amenities and group classes.
All Levels Driving Academy in Katy offers driving lessons, driver education programs and online defensive driving courses.
Verde Pilates, a boutique pilates studio, and Hear Again America, a hearing evaluation and hearing aid provider, round out the list.
Large-scale projects are also taking shape nearby. The 165-acre Texas Heritage Marketplace is 85–90% preleased, and the 46-acre Green at Katy Park mixed-use district and 23-acre Fulshear Central development are underway, Community Impact reported in July.
