Katy ISD's Partners in Education program is looking for businesses and community members to fill unfilled campus requests this fall, including workshop presenters, reading volunteers and safety patrol vests.
The district's PIE department sent an email blast on Sept. 1 listing specific needs across multiple campuses, the Katy Times reported. The outreach followed an Aug. 19 event where PIE introduced local businesses and organizations to volunteer and donation opportunities.
Several campuses have posted specific requests.
24 presenters needed at Tompkins High School
Texas Area 5 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) needs about 24 workshop presenters for its fall conference on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Tompkins High School. Each presenter leads two 45-minute sessions on the same topic, one from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. and another from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., with 25 to 30 students per session. Topics include starting a business, personal finance, marketing, leadership, public speaking and interviewing.

Reading volunteers for November's Promise to Read
The PIE department described Promise to Read as a November initiative that brings business and community partners into elementary classrooms. Organizations can adopt a campus and send employees to read with students, or volunteers can spread across multiple campuses. Registration opens in early October.
Safety vests, attendance prizes and teacher treats
Wilson Elementary needs 25 safety patrol vests for students who help with arrival and dismissal. Businesses that donate can have their logos printed on the back of the vests.
Beck Junior High is seeking donated items to use as attendance incentives, such as certificates, special offers or other student-friendly rewards.
Memorial Parkway Junior High wants a business partner to sponsor 50 cookies for teachers at a Lunch & Learn session. Four sessions are planned throughout the year, and sponsors can pick their date.
