Katy ISD students outscored their peers statewide by double digits in every tested subject this spring, earning the district a B/88 from the Texas Education Agency and the top rating among the state's largest school districts.
Superintendent Ken Gregorski presented the results to trustees at the Aug. 17 Board Work Study meeting, according to a district announcement. He called the scores a reflection of "the excellence in action happening in classrooms every day."
The gap between Katy ISD and the state average at the "Meets Grade Level" standard was stark: 17 points in math, 16 in reading and English, 17 in science and 19 in social studies. Overall, 69% of district students met grade level across all subjects, compared with 52% statewide. At the "Masters" level, 41% of Katy ISD students hit the mark versus 24% across Texas.
The district also posted a 96.5% four-year graduation rate, well above the 91.2% state average.
Campus-level results
Sixty-two of the district's 78 campuses earned A or B ratings. Five high schools pulled A's: Cinco Ranch, Jordan, Seven Lakes, Taylor and Tompkins. Katy High School, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch and Paetow each earned B ratings.
Not every campus fared well. Four elementary schools received D ratings: Jack & Sharon Rhoads Elementary, Mayde Creek Elementary, Robert King Elementary and West Memorial Elementary, according to My Neighborhood News.
Beyond TEA scores
For the fifth consecutive year, Niche gave Katy ISD an A+ and named it the No. 1 Best School District in the Houston Area for 2026. The district is the only one with more than 22,000 students to crack Niche's Top 10 in Texas.
On the financial side, Katy ISD has earned the state's highest School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) distinction for 23 consecutive years, scoring 98 out of 100.
What's next
The district served more than 91,000 students during the 2025–26 accountability year and welcomed nearly 94,000 back on Aug. 12 for the new school year. The next regular Board of Trustees meeting is listed as Tuesday, Aug. 25.
