Four seniors across three Katy ISD high schools earned the district's top individual athletic honor Monday, Aug. 10, capping a 2025-26 season that produced state championships in track, softball, tennis and wrestling.

Katy ISD Athletics announced Blake Hamilton of Tompkins and Allan Xu of Seven Lakes as co-Male Athletes of the Year, with EK Smith and Emily Beltran of Katy High sharing the Female Athlete of the Year award. The announcements came two days before the district's first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Hamilton: fastest all-conditions 200m in U.S. high school history

Hamilton ran a wind-aided 19.86 seconds in the Class 6A boys 200-meter dash at the UIL state championships in Austin on May 16, posting the fastest all-conditions 200m time in U.S. high school history, the Houston Chronicle reported. The +4.6 m/s tailwind exceeded the +2.0 threshold for official records, but no American prep sprinter had ever gone sub-20 under any conditions.

Hamilton also anchored the Falcons' gold-medal 4x100 relay (40.21 seconds) and helped Tompkins win its first boys team state track title with 47 points. After the 200m win, he ripped off his bib number and flipped it to reveal "God's Child" written in black marker on the back.

"It's been an absolute dream, to be honest," Hamilton told the Houston Chronicle in May after the race. "Coming from TAPPS, it's a little bit different. The competition in UIL 6A is a whole lot better."

Hamilton transferred to Fort Bend Christian for his junior year before returning to Tompkins as a senior.

Xu: four-time region champion, two-time state gold medalist

Xu and doubles partner Matei Calin captured the UIL 6A boys doubles state championship at the Northside Tennis Center in Helotes, defeating Strake Jesuit in the final. Xu finished his Seven Lakes career as a four-time Region III champion, four-time state qualifier and two-time state gold medalist, according to the Katy Times. He also helped lead the Spartans to two UIL Team Tennis State Tournament appearances.

Smith: Gatorade Player of the Year, Oklahoma signee

EK Smith led Katy High to the Class 6A Division II state softball championship on May 30, a 7-2 win over Forney that gave the Tigers their third state title. Smith batted .628 with 21 home runs and 57 RBIs while going 13-1 with a 1.88 ERA in the circle, earning the Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year award, Covering Katy reported.

She is headed to Oklahoma. Perfect Game ranks her the nation's No. 2 prospect in her class.

Beltran: 97-0 over two seasons

Beltran won her second consecutive UIL Class 6A wrestling state championship in the 105-pound division, finishing the season 49-0. She pinned her first three state tournament opponents in less than four minutes combined before beating The Woodlands' Brynlee Mooney 12-4 by major decision in the final, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Over her final two seasons, Beltran went 97-0 and became just the third girls wrestler in Katy ISD history to win back-to-back state titles.
