Every returning Katy ISD family needs to verify their student's information through PowerSchool for the 2026-27 school year, and a new AI-powered tool called "Eve" is now available to field transportation questions.
The district highlighted both items in a post on X on Saturday, Aug. 15, linking to its weekly Digest newsletter. The announcement came two days after about 90,000 students walked through classroom doors for the first day of school.
What the Annual Update requires
The Annual Student Enrollment Update is not optional. Katy ISD requires every current family to confirm addresses, emergency contacts and other data each year through PowerSchool. Returning families began receiving email prompts the week of July 27, and the window remains open.
No deadline has been announced.
Families who have not yet received an email can log in to PowerSchool directly or visit katyisd.org/registration.
Meet Eve
Katy ISD introduced "Eve" as its new AI-powered transportation assistant for the 2026-27 school year. The district describes Eve as a resource for families with bus-related questions, though it has not yet detailed whether the tool operates as a chatbot, phone line or app feature.
The launch comes as the district rolls out a broader AI framework this year. Under new guidelines reported by the Houston Chronicle, students in kindergarten through sixth grade cannot use generative AI tools; seventh graders may use them when directed by a teacher; eighth graders need teacher permission for approved tools; and high school students may use generative AI but must disclose and cite it.
First day of school
Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski was at Katy Elementary School on Thursday, Aug. 13, greeting students. He told Covering Katy he had woken up at 4:30 a.m. in anticipation: "I'm all coffeed up now, so I'm OK."
What's next
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees holds a Work Study meeting Monday, Aug. 17. Families who still need to complete the Annual Update should log in to PowerSchool as soon as possible; no closing date has been set, but the district treats the step as required for all returning students.
