Volleyball players across Katy ISD's 10 high schools are competing in regular-season games beginning the week of Aug. 10, with tennis and cross country also underway and football teams entering their first scrimmages.
Katy ISD Athletics announced the milestone Monday, Aug. 10, marking the district's official transition from summer practices to live competition. The timing lines up with the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 12, meaning student-athletes will juggle opening-week classes and early-season matchups simultaneously.
All 10 UIL 6A programs are in action: Cinco Ranch, Freeman, Jordan, Katy, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch, Paetow, Seven Lakes, Taylor and Tompkins. Volleyball is furthest along, opening its full regular season the week of Aug. 10. Tennis and cross country are in the early stages of their regular-season schedules. Football teams, meanwhile, are scrimmaging ahead of regular-season openers later in August.

The launch comes six days after fall practices began across the district on Aug. 4. Regular-season football dates have not yet been confirmed publicly.
