Calum Neff crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 29.5 seconds on Monday, Sept. 7, nearly a full minute ahead of the next runner at the Katy Labor Day 5K.
No one came close.
Neff, 42, of Richmond led a field of 371 runners and walkers at the annual race at Villagio Town Center in Cinco Ranch, Covering Katy News reported. The certified, chip-timed event followed a flat course along Peek Road.
Christopher Wise, 26, of Richmond placed second overall in 16:26.0. Adolfo Gome, 44, also of Richmond, finished third in 17:56.1.
Katy's Alyssa Jochen, 28, won the women's division in 19:35.8, placing sixth overall. Ariana Sears, 26, of Cypress took second among women in 20:48.3, and Paula Santos, 39, of Katy finished third in 21:18.1.
The Katy Area Running Club organized the race, which is open to runners and walkers of all abilities. Athletes from Ainsley's Angels of America received an early start before the rest of the field. The organization pairs athlete riders with volunteer runners who push specialized racing chairs, making endurance events accessible to people with disabilities.
Proceeds from the race benefit two nonprofits: The Ballard House, a Katy-based organization that provides temporary housing at no cost to patients and caregivers traveling to the Houston area for medical treatment, and Ainsley's Angels.
The event, formerly known as the Back to School 5K, has become an annual Labor Day tradition in the Katy area.

- Saturday, Sept. 26: Walk to End Alzheimer's at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd., at 7:30 a.m.
