A 28-year-old Katy man faces two new felony charges after Bryan police say he drove 85 miles to meet a 14-year-old girl he contacted online for years.

Daniel Gutierrez Salgado was arrested just before midnight on Sept. 3 at Sue Haswell Park in Bryan after an officer found him and the girl inside his vehicle, according to KBTX. The vehicle's windshield was covered and curtains hung over the back windows.

Salgado told the officer it was "hot in Texas" when asked about the covered windows, KBTX reported. He said he had traveled from Katy to drop off items he had bought for the girl.

Officers recovered two firearms from the vehicle, a 9mm handgun and a .22-caliber revolver, along with condoms, a new package of girl's underwear, sports bras and a rabbit costume of a sexual nature, WTAW reported.

The girl, who was identified as a runaway, told officers she first connected with Salgado through a cell phone app when she was 12 and had lied about her age, claiming she was 18. The two stayed in contact mostly through Snapchat, according to KBTX.

The girl's mother told investigators she learned of the Snapchat contact in 2024 and repeatedly told Salgado to stop reaching out to her daughter. She said her daughter was not allowed to leave the house at night without permission. In past runaway incidents, the mother said, her daughter had been with Salgado.

Harris County deputies conducted a welfare check at Salgado's home in June 2025 while searching for the girl, WTAW reported. Investigators said Salgado told deputies during that check he was aware the girl had lied about her age.

A review of the girl's phone, conducted with her mother's consent, turned up messages and video files showing what investigators described as a romantic and sexually explicit relationship dating back to January 2025, according to KBTX. Investigators said the material included video in which Salgado exposed himself and engaged in a sex act on camera. Explicit videos were exchanged in the hours before his arrest, WTAW reported.

Both Salgado and the girl denied having an inappropriate relationship. The girl described Salgado as a father figure who had helped her escape an abusive situation, according to KBTX.

Salgado was initially charged with a city park curfew violation, unlawful carrying of a weapon and enticing a child. He was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center and posted $46,000 bond on Sept. 8.

Bryan police have since added two felony charges: possession of visual material depicting a child younger than 18 and distribution of sexually explicit material over the internet. A warrant has been issued.

No court date for the new charges has been announced, according to WTAW's Tuesday, Sept. 22, report.
