Fort Bend County Fair marks 90th year starting Sept. 25

The Fort Bend County Fair opens its 90th year Friday, Sept. 25, with a morning parade, carnival rides and live music at the fairgrounds in Rosenberg.

Fort Bend County Interim Judge Daniel Wong invited families across the county to Fair Day in a post on X on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The 10-day fair runs through Sunday, Oct. 4, at 4310 Highway 36 South in Rosenberg.

For Katy and Fulshear families with children in Lamar Consolidated ISD, the day comes with a built-in schedule change. Lamar CISD announced that all schools and district offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 25, in observance of Fort Bend County Fair Day.

Classes resume Monday, Sept. 28.

The kickoff parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Historic Fort Bend County Courthouse in Richmond, then travels west along Highway 90A into Rosenberg. More than 200 entries are expected, including marching bands, floats, equestrian groups and civic organizations, My Neighborhood News reported.

The George Ranch will serve as this year's parade grand marshal. A restored Wagonette carriage pulled by Whiskey and Bourbon, the ranch's equine driving team, will lead the delegation. Cowboys on horseback and horse-drawn wagons with educators in period clothing will follow, the Katy Times reported.

This year's fair carries the theme "90 Years Strong. Honoring the Past, Growing the Future." The first Fort Bend County Fair was held in October 1933. Operations paused during World War II, and in 1974 the event moved to its current fairgrounds on Highway 36.

The Fair Association established its scholarship program in 1979 and says it has awarded more than 1,000 scholarships to Fort Bend County students attending Texas colleges and universities.

Over the past decade, the association has distributed more than $2 million in scholarships and generated $1.4 million through youth auctions in 2025 alone, according to the Katy Times.

Joel Rose, named the Fair Association's new manager in July, described the fair's draw in an August interview with the Katy Times. "They're family reunions," Rose said. "Whether it's grandparents bringing grandchildren, parents making memories with their kids, or neighbors seeing each other for the first time in a year, the county fair is where communities come together."

Opening-day entertainment features performer Tyce Delk. The fair also includes a PRCA Rodeo from Thursday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 4, and the 11th annual Exceptional Rodeo on Friday, Oct. 2, for Fort Bend County children ages 3 to 12 with intellectual, developmental or physical disabilities.

Tickets are available at fortbendcountyfair.com and are valid only for the day selected at purchase. Each ticket includes fair entry, carnival access, exhibits, food vendors and, when scheduled, rodeo seating and concert admission.
