Katy Christian Ministries walked away from Daikin Park with a $10,000 check on Sept. 4.

KCM Executive Director Kyle Strickland accepted a mock check during pregame ceremonies at the Houston Astros' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Katy Times reported. The donation came through the annual "Bases Loaded" campaign, a partnership between Chick-fil-A Houston and the Astros Foundation.

KCM was one of nine Houston-area nonprofits to receive $10,000 each, for a total of $90,000 awarded that evening.

Every time the Astros load the bases at a home game, the two organizations pledge 2,000 meals to the Houston Shared Table Community. The season-end donations go to nonprofits that support the program.

"I am deeply humbled to accept this check on behalf of our entire community … It is a beautiful reminder of what happens when local organizations step up to the plate to ensure our neighbors are supported," Strickland said in an email to the Katy Times.

The donation carries a local thread. KCM Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships Heather Peterson thanked the Chick-fil-A on Pin Oak in Katy for its contribution.

Founded in 1984, KCM runs a food pantry and crisis center from its Porter Road headquarters in Katy, serving residents facing poverty, food insecurity and domestic violence across Katy and West Houston.

The nonprofit's next fundraiser, its first annual Harvest of Hope Fundraising Luncheon, is set for Thursday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Grand Upper Room, 23161 Morton Ranch Rd. Tickets and sponsorships are available at ktcm.org.
