Katy's City Council will hold a special workshop Wednesday, Sept. 23, to review the city's sign ordinances, a session two council members requested on Aug. 20.

Mayor Pro Tem Gina Hicks, who represents Ward B, and at-large Councilmember Paul Follis asked for the review, according to a city notice posted by City Secretary Becky L. McGrew on Sept. 17. The notice does not say what specific sign rules the two want to revisit or what complaints may have prompted the request.

The workshop begins at 4:30 p.m. at Katy City Hall, 901 Avenue C. A quorum of the council may attend, but the notice states no official action will be taken.

Katy already enforces commercial signage standards through its code enforcement program. The city also prohibits so-called "bandit" signs and garage sale signs placed in public rights-of-way, including signs attached to telephone poles, power poles and stop signs.

No agenda packet, staff report or presentation for the workshop has been published. Neither Hicks nor Follis has made public statements explaining what changes they want to explore.
