The Katy Tigers scored 42 points on the road Friday, Sept. 4, beating the Dickinson Gators 42-24 to open the season 2-0.

Katy ISD Athletics called the road win a strong performance in a post on X, but no individual stats or scoring breakdown from the game have been released.

The victory came against a Dickinson program that entered the season ranked No. 10 in Class 6A and No. 100 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings. The Gators dropped to 0-2 after also losing their opener to Fort Bend Ridge Point 29-26, according to Houston Chronicle rankings.

Katy's fast start builds on a Week 1 demolition of state-ranked Atascocita. The Tigers built a 25-point lead and held on for a 28-17 win Aug. 29 at Legacy Stadium. Quarterback Mason Hartwell rushed for nearly 200 yards, and defensive back Caleb Ritter picked off three passes, according to the Houston Chronicle's top-performers roundup. Atascocita was ranked No. 11 in Class 6A entering that game.

Two straight wins over preseason top-15 opponents have vaulted Katy into the Dallas Morning News' Class 6A state poll at No. 10. TexasHSFootball.com had the Tigers at No. 7 after Week 1.

The 2-0 start is no accident.

Head coach Gary Joseph, now in his 44th year leading the program, set the tone before the season started. "I can't wait to see how our players and coaches rise to match or exceed the reputation and traditions of Katy High School," Joseph said in the Katy ISD fall sports preview published Aug. 31.

The roster already carried preseason honors. Offensive lineman Isaac Coughran, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound Oklahoma commit, and linebacker Cade Haug were both named to the Touchdown Club of Houston's preseason All-Greater Houston team, ABC 13 reported.

Week 3 of the Texas high school football season runs Sept. 10-12. Katy's opponent had not been announced as of Sept. 5.
