Lowe's opened a 95,000-square-foot store in west Katy on Friday, Sept. 4, becoming the first anchor tenant at the $400 million Texas Heritage Marketplace.
The store at 981 Heritage Oak Lane includes a 30,000-square-foot outdoor garden center and employs more than 100 full- and part-time workers. The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening, Covering Katy News reported.
The same day brought a new detail for shoppers waiting on Target. The company confirmed its 148,000-square-foot store at 29355 Katy Freeway will open Sunday, Oct. 11. Target calls the location its "Katy Heritage" store, its fourth in the Katy market.
The Target store will employ about 200 people and include a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks and Target Optical, along with covered drive-up lanes and order pickup. Target said the store will carry an expanded selection of fresh produce, meat and dairy products. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Lowe's is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. It is among the first Lowe's locations nationally to debut a redesigned tool section with wider aisles and lower fixture heights, according to the Katy Times. Store manager Mike Spall said in an announcement ahead of the opening that Lowe's wants to serve homeowners and contractors in one of the fastest-growing areas in the country.
Texas Heritage Marketplace sits on 165 acres at the southeast corner of Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway. Houston-based developer NewQuest has planned approximately 750,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and medical space, along with future multifamily housing. A July 9 Community Impact report said 85% to 90% of the development had been preleased.
Other confirmed anchors include Sam's Club with a fuel station, Academy Sports + Outdoors and Burlington. Sam's Club is under construction at 29153 Katy Freeway and is targeting a January opening, according to NewQuest, though Sam's Club has not announced an official date.
Restaurants headed to the development include Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Escalante's, Tony C's Pizza & Beer Garden, Jersey Mike's and The Kebab Shop. Whataburger has already opened at the site.
David Meyers, NewQuest's managing director of leasing, said in August that the pace of construction reflects strong demand. "The demand for retail in this high-growth area is immediate so everyone is committed to getting it done as quickly as possible," Meyers told Covering Katy News on Aug. 18.
In a March 2025 estimate, city officials projected the development would generate roughly $3 million in annual sales tax revenue for the City of Katy, according to the Katy Economic Development Council. The city also plans to build a combined police and fire station within the development.
Texas Heritage Parkway connects I-10 with FM 1093, giving residents of Jordan Ranch, Tamarron and Cross Creek Ranch a direct route to the shopping center.
