A piercing and jewelry studio where licensed nurses handle every needle is coming to LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch.

Rowan, a hypoallergenic jewelry brand founded by Louisa Serene Schneider, confirmed it will open a studio at the Katy shopping center, according to Community Impact. The location will be the company's 11th in Texas and joins more than 100 studios nationwide, company representative Elizabeth Baxter said.

Unlike mall kiosks and traditional piercing shops, every Rowan piercing is performed by a licensed vocational nurse, licensed practical nurse or registered nurse. Each piercer completes more than 100 hours of specialized piercing training in addition to on-the-job learning, according to the company's website. Rowan reports an adverse reaction rate below 1%, compared to an industry average of roughly 30%.

All jewelry sold and used in piercings is hypoallergenic, made from 14-karat gold, titanium or sterling silver with a 14-karat gold overlay.

Rowan is also one of the few piercing studios that serves children under 13, a niche that has fueled the brand's rapid growth. The company expanded from 14 stores in 2022 to more than 100 by the end of 2025 and was approaching $100 million in annual revenue as of September 2025, Modern Retail reported. Schneider estimated the company would open about 30 more locations in 2026.

"Our nurses have to spend months training, and sometimes that means the studio isn't hitting on potential revenue goals as quickly as it might," Schneider told Modern Retail in September 2025. "But it means that the outcome of the customer should be much better."

The company has performed more than 1 million piercings to date.
