A four-acre sports training facility with pro-level pitching and hitting technology opened Aug. 1 on Fulshear Gaston Road, giving Katy and Fulshear youth baseball and softball players a performance-focused training option close to home.
P95 Academy, at 25323 Fulshear Gaston Road in Richmond, sits just south of the Westpark Tollway near FM 723. Owner and head coach Tim Clark built the complex around individualized athlete development rather than drop-in cage rentals, according to a feature on Covering Katy.
"It's all about performance. We strictly work with athletes who are looking to get to the next level," Clark said.
The indoor space spans more than 5,000 square feet and is climate-controlled. Three 70-foot batting cages allow hitters to face breaking pitches at game-realistic distances. A strength-and-conditioning gym and outdoor fields for throwing, fielding and speed work round out the property.
Clark said the longer cage length matters because shorter indoor cages let breaking balls reach hitters before the pitch moves the way it would in a live at-bat.
Technology and training model
P95 uses Rapsodo and TrackMan systems to track metrics such as exit velocity, launch angle, spin rate and pitch movement. Slow-motion video can be paired with the data. Clark said the methodology draws on 15 years of study and testing.
Youth members can access the facility five days a week during the school year, scheduling sessions through an app. Trainers provide individualized workouts and monitor technique. Athletes do not need to belong to a particular team or organization to train at P95.
The facility also hosts showcases where athletes can demonstrate their abilities for college coaches and scouts using the full-length cages, open field and performance-tracking tools.
