Simply South, an all-vegetarian Indian restaurant with more than 200 menu items, has opened at 24600 Katy Freeway, Suite 1020, bringing the chain's first Greater Houston location to the I-10 corridor.

The restaurant is now open, Community Impact reported Monday, Aug. 10. Owner Sree Bharat Gummadi confirmed the Katy expansion in a What Now Houston report in June.

Gummadi founded Simply South in Dallas in 2024, starting with a location in Irving. That Irving restaurant landed on the New York Times' list of America's Best Restaurants for 2024, the only North Texas spot on the list that year, according to the company's website.

The Katy menu spans dosas, idli, wada, pongal, biryani, curries, soups, breads, Indo-Chinese dishes, desserts, chai and lassi. Across all Simply South locations, the full catalog tops 450 items celebrating the culinary traditions of five South Indian states. No meat is served.

The restaurant describes its concept as a tribute to the spices, herbs and vegetables cultivated across India, according to its website.

Simply South now operates locations in Irving, Frisco, McKinney and Warrenville, Illinois, with the Katy spot as its newest. The chain has additional openings planned in Columbus, Ohio, in August; Atlanta in October; Austin later this year; and Tampa, Florida, Virginia and Schaumburg, Illinois, in early 2027.

Gummadi has said the restaurant is not related to the iconic South Indian restaurant of the same name in Hyderabad, India.
