Tompkins fell to Bridgeland 35-7 at Rhodes Stadium on Friday, Sept. 4, dropping the Falcons to 0-2 to start the 2026 season.

A lengthy weather delay pushed the game deep into the night. Katy ISD Athletics said on X that Tompkins battled against a strong Bridgeland squad and fought hard after the stoppage before falling by four touchdowns.

The loss followed a 42-21 defeat to Klein Collins on Friday, Aug. 28, in the season opener. Two weeks in, the Falcons have been outscored 77-28.

Bridgeland, a Cypress-Fairbanks ISD program based in Cypress, entered the game at 1-0 after a dramatic 31-30 comeback win over The Woodlands in Week 1. Running back Kash Schwab scored four touchdowns in that game, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Head coach Todd McVey struck an optimistic tone before the season began. In the Katy ISD fall sports preview published Monday, Aug. 31, McVey said he hoped the team would "grow each week through adversity and respond with Falcon pride."

Two games into the year, that adversity has arrived. The nondistrict schedule gives Tompkins time to correct course before District 19-6A play, but the Falcons will need to close the gap quickly after being outscored by a combined 49 points.

Tompkins' Week 3 opponent has not been announced.
