Katy Police Chief Chad Dismukes will be honored at a retirement celebration Wednesday, Sept. 2, one of 13 community events the city scheduled across September.

The City of Katy posted a Notice of Possible Quorum on Thursday, Aug. 27, listing events where a quorum of the City Council or city boards may attend. No formal government action will be taken at any of the gatherings.

Dismukes' sendoff runs from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Katy Civic Center, 910 Avenue C. The notice did not include details about his tenure or a successor.

Houston Methodist breaks ground on emergency center

Houston Methodist will hold a groundbreaking for its Katy Emergency Care Center on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 29133 Katy Freeway. The health system opened a separate $62 million comprehensive care center in Cinco Ranch in April, according to Community Impact. No cost or size details for the emergency center have been released.

Rice Heritage Festival kickoff

Boots & Brews, the official kickoff to the Katy Rice Heritage Festival, takes over Historic Town Square, 904 Avenue C, on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Linda Mikeska bench dedication

A bench honoring Linda Mikeska will be dedicated at Katy Heritage Park, 5990 George St., on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at noon. Mikeska, 77, died May 20 after a brief illness. She devoted more than two decades to the Katy Heritage Society, according to her obituary, and the restoration of the park's Mess Hall was one of her greatest passions, according to a Katy Area Chamber fundraiser listing.
