Katy rolled past Tompkins 45-21 at Rhodes Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10, opening District 22-6A play against a fellow Katy ISD program.

The 24-point win pushed the Tigers to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in district. Katy ISD Athletics said on X that the Tigers delivered a strong overall performance against the Falcons.

The score was lopsided. But the matchup carried weight as the first district game of the year for both squads, with Katy ISD Athletics announcing Sept. 7 that football teams across the district were beginning league play that week.

Head coach Gary Joseph's squad has outscored opponents in every game this fall. Katy opened the season with a 28-17 win over Atascocita on Aug. 29 at Legacy Stadium. After three weeks, MaxPreps slots Katy at No. 22 in the state.

The Tigers entered the year with two players named to the Touchdown Club of Houston's preseason All-Greater Houston team: offensive lineman Isaac Coughran and linebacker Cade Haug. Coughran, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound senior, is a three-star 2027 prospect committed to Oklahoma. Haug anchors the defensive side for a unit that has allowed just 38 points through three games.

"I can't wait to see how our players and coaches rise to match or exceed the reputation and traditions of Katy High School," Joseph said in the Katy ISD fall sports preview published Aug. 31, setting the bar for the program heading into the season.

Tompkins head coach Todd McVey faces an early district hole after the loss. In the Katy ISD fall sports preview published Sept. 9, McVey said he hoped his players would "grow each week through adversity and respond with Falcon pride." The Falcons now carry a district loss as they look to regroup.

No individual game statistics or scoring breakdown were available at publication. Katy carries its No. 22 state ranking and unblemished record into Week 4.
