A Vietnamese restaurant serving bánh mì sandwiches, pho and shaking beef fried rice opened in May on S. Mason Road, adding to a string of new dining options along the Katy corridor.

Madame Mai is now operating at 2004 S. Mason Road, Suite D5, Community Impact Newspaper reported Wednesday, Aug. 5, citing restaurant officials. The eatery occupies a strip-center unit in the Park Row area, about a mile south of Interstate 10.

The menu runs deep for a small storefront. Entrees include Hue-style beef noodle soup (bún bò Huế), Vietnamese beef stew, rice vermicelli bowls, rice platters and crispy egg noodles, with prices ranging from $16.50 to $18 for most dishes, according to the restaurant's DoorDash listing. Drinks include Thai tea, Vietnamese coffee, smoothies and fresh juices.

Early reviews have been strong.

Kelly G., a DoorDash reviewer who ordered May 16, zeroed in on the bread:

"I've been struggling to find really good banh mi in the Katy area and this beats everything I've tried since Yelo closed. Perfect crunch to the bread, very flavorful bbq pork, fresh veggies."

On Yelp, Madame Mai holds a 5.0-star rating across 29 reviews and a 4.6-star rating on DoorDash from more than 20 orders. One Yelp reviewer mentioned meeting the owner, who goes by Andy, and described him as "very friendly."

The opening makes Madame Mai at least the third new restaurant to land on or near S. Mason Road this summer. Taste of India opened July 1 at 943 S. Mason Road, and Ember + Lotus began serving Thai cuisine Monday, Aug. 3, on Westheimer Parkway, according to Community Impact reporting.

Madame Mai is open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and closed Tuesdays.
